GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Tope Elementary students and staff participated in the 71st annual costume parade Wednesday afternoon.

Vampires, ninjas and superheroes all invaded the Monterey Park Retirement Home just before 1 p.m. to visit with the elderly.

Physical education teacher Josh Warinner said this is an excellent way to reach out to the community.

"The kids love it. We start our school day off, then after lunch we change into our costumes, and they have their little Halloween parties, their costume parade; then they go home for the day," said Warinner.

More than 300 hundred students in grades one through five participated in the parade.
