GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.-
Health officials say the number one cause of death in Mesa County is heart disease.
February is heart health month, and Mesa County Health Department says to sustain a healthy heart eat fruits, vegetables, a lot of fiber, and do something active every day.
The health department is also giving free cardiovascular screenings to those eligible.
"High blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity or being overweight are health risk factors that can contribute to heart disease," said Tamara Capp, communication specialist with the Mesa County Health Department.
The health department also has a heart display at Mesa Mall and will have a health educator there Feb. 16, to answer any questions.
