Officials Teach Safe Driving to Teens and Parents

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- One in three teenage deaths is the result of a car accident. That's why several insurance companies and local law enforcement officials teamed up to teach teenagers and their parents the dangers of distracted driving.

Folks were able to try on "fatal vision" goggles that replicate different levels of intoxication.

There was also a driving simulator to show teens what it's like to drive while under the influence and while distracted.

"Any type of distraction, certainly alcohol and drugs, will just make it so much more difficult to operate a vehicle safely, certainly texting, even talking on the phone, even changing the station on the radio can really have a negative affect," said Jamie Lummis of the Moody Insurance Agency.

Organizers say they hope teens will now think twice before texting and driving.

They also hope parents learned enough to be able to set good examples while they're on the road.
