3 Local Families Celebrate National Adoption Day

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Friday was a very special day for three local families, one they will never forget.

During National Adoption Day on Friday, Judge Valerie Robinson presided over adoption dockets and brought together a total of eight children with three families

“This gives them a peace of mind that they've got a forever family,” said Dan Waalkes, who adopted four children with his wife. “They don't ever have to worry about leaving again.”

National Adoption Day is a collective effort to raise awareness across the country for more than 100,000 children in foster care waiting to find permanent families.

“It makes our hearts feel good, it makes us feel good, and it makes the child have a loving home,” said Tracie Stadelman, who adopted her second child.

The day is celebrated every year in November, and in 2006, for the first time, National Adoption Day was celebrated in all 50 states.
