GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. The 29th annual Parade of Lights took place in downtown Grand Junction Saturday evening. Thousands attended the event, officials say it is the Grand Valley's largest parade of the year.

Officials say folks were setting up their spots as early as 7:30 a.m.

About 105 floats were on display for onlookers. This year's theme for the parade was A Fairy Tale Christmas.

There are four different categories: businesses, performances, organizations and youth. All of the floats will be judged and three winners named in each category.

Earlier in the day local nonprofits were selling holiday treats and hot drinks for folks to enjoy.

Kathy Dirks, marketing director for the downtown partnership, said, "It's just such a wonderful community event. You know people come downtown early in the day and they shop and they have lunch and then after the parade they'll stay and have dinner. So it's a great boost for downtown and it's also just a lot of fun."

The parade began at 5 p.m and lasted around two hours.

Will there be a clip from this story that aired tonight available online? My daughter is interviewed on it and would love to share it?

It's okay Sam. The hosses had slammed a few 40's before starting the parade and forget to wipe their muzzles. :-D

The two beautiful black horses near the end of the parade had so much foam coming out of their mouths. I was concerned as to whether the bit in their mouths was to tight possibly causing them to foam up or not the right bit for them or some other problem with the type of bit used. It was very troubling.
