MESA COUNTY, Colo.- Fire officials say lightning has caused a new fire in the De Beque area.

Firefighters are currently working on the Third Water Springs Fire, which is burning 25 miles up Roan Creek Road on Kimball Mountain.

The blaze is currently estimated at about 131 acres. As of
8 p.m. Thursday, officials with the Bureau of Land Management say the fire is about 25 percent contained.

BLM officials also say they aren't seeing the same type of fire behavior from this blaze that they did with the Pine Ridge Fire. "It's not having anywhere near the type of activity that we were seeing with the Pine Ridge Fire," said Chris Joyner with the BLM. "The weather conditions have been more favorable for firefighting and the terrain, while it is difficult, there's some unique differences with the types of fuels being involved."

There are 100 people on scene utilizing both air and ground resources.

At this time there are no structures being threatened and all gas lines that are in the area have been shut off.
