NEWTOWN, Conn. (AP) - People worldwide are expressing their support of residents in Newtown, Conn., by sending toys, money and other gifts to the town.

A gunman fatally shot 20 children and six women at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton just over a week ago. Police say Adam Lanza also killed his mother and committed suicide.

Funerals for three little victims were held Saturday.

The outpouring of tens of thousands of teddy bears, Barbie dolls, soccer balls, board games and more has come from toy stores, organizations and individuals. Newtown's children were invited to its town hall on Saturday to choose a toy.

The local United Way says the official fund for donations had $2.8 million in it Saturday.

The agency is encouraging people to donate to others in memory of Newtown victims.

Is there a way I can donate directly? I don't want an organization that scrapes off the vig to handle my donation.
