'The House' Fills With Teens For The Holidays

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The holidays can be a tough time of year for many people, especially teens who are finding themselves on the streets during the cold months. One local organization is doing all they can to make sure no teen is without shelter and food this Christmas.

The House, A Place For Teens, is a nonprofit organization that holds up to ten teens at a time who are homeless.

Organizers say The House is completely full for the holidays and that each teen gets gifts and a special meal on Christmas day.

"When you're loved and cared about on the holidays, but you're loved and cared about by people who aren't your family, that can be difficult too. So, it doesn't mean it won't be a tough time for some of our teens. I think it will be, but we have the resources to take care of
them, thanks to our guardians and this community. We are really thankful for that," said John Mok-Lamme, organizer of The House.

The House is looking to create future projects that will allow teens to stay in some long-term housing.

Organizers say they always need more volunteers including more guardians.

The House is asking for 1,000 guardians to help the nonprofit by donating $100 a year. Officials say they are 300 short of their goal. They are also asking for the current guardians to renew for the new year.

There are other ways to help donate to The House. Find out by going to their web site at thehousegj.org.

I would like to look at Voluntering at The House and see what those volunteer positions look like. My number is 719-209-8511 and my wife and I have been living in Grand Junction, CO for 4 months. I retired one year ago. Thanks for the opportunity to assist. Gary Harrington
