GRAND JUNCTION,Colo. On Sunday, hundreds of different rare stones filled the Two Rivers Convention Center for the 66th Annual Gem and Mineral Show.
Organizers with the Gem and Mineral Club say they had more than 38 vendors in attendance with 12 of them from out of state. They say this is the highest amount of people to ever be a part of this show.
Organizers say they want the community to appreciate the long history Colorado has with the gem and mineral industry.
"We really want to protect what's there and we like to keep available what's there. This stuff brings us joy and that's good for our spirit and good for our soul. This is our love of the rocks,” said gem show chairman Chuck Duncan.
A silent auction was held to help raise money for three geology scholarships for Colorado Mesa University students.
Officials say they're always looking for members to join and even go on rock hunting excursions.
