Teachers Receive Rain Gauge Training

by KREX News Room

Grand Junction - It may not rain a whole lot in Western Colorado, but when it does, a handful of local teachers and their students will be ready to record the data.

A small group of elementary and middle school teachers met Friday afternoon at the John McConnell Math and Science Center at New Emerson Elementary School to train in the proper usage of a rain gauge.

Noah Newman from CoCoRahs, a citizen science network that collects precipitation data, was on hand to train the teachers, and said, "It's just a great idea to put a rain gauge at a school where, one, the kids get to have an actual scientific instrument in their hands and to report real scientific data."

Newman is hoping that local schools will utilize the rain gauges and join nearly 200 other schools nationwide who submit their data to the organization.

Better teach them how to read, and write, before we work up to "scientific" equipment. A retired process engr.

They fixed gauge, but receive is still spelled wrong. Two words in one short sentence. They really need spell checker.

That's funny; your headline spelled gauge guage. So much for spell check!
