MESA COUNTY, Colo.- Colorado's TCAP results are in for the 2012 school year.

The test is serving as a transitional tool while Colorado education officials try to create a new way to rank students' progress after placing new academic standards into classrooms.

The TCAP test is different from the familiar CSAPs, as it no longer tests on the old academic standards. Scores showed that some grade levels in Mesa County scored better than others during the transition.

In math, third graders had the highest percentage of students scoring proficient or advanced, 65.8 percent, with one of the lowest percentage of unsatisfactory scores, 8 percent.

In writing, fewer seventh graders scored low, 3.2 percent, while the level of those who scored proficient or higher increased to the highest across the district, 58.8 percent.

Tenth graders had the best rate of students scoring proficient or advanced in science, 58 percent, with 18.7 percent scoring unsatisfactorily.

In reading, sixth graders had the most students scoring proficient or higher, 73 percent, with a smaller rate of low scores compared to last year, 7.9 percent.
