Suspect Arrested in 1988 Pagosa Springs Murder Case

DURANGO, Colo.- A 56-year-old truck driver from Lamar has been arrested in connection with a 24-year-old Pagosa Springs murder case.

The Durango Herald reports Charles "Ray'' Stane has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of 40-year-old Vickie Calline Dexter, who was found dead in 1988 floating face down in a hot-water pool known as the Hippie Dip.

Investigators identified Stane as a suspect days after the murder, but they didn't have enough physical evidence to make an arrest.

An arrest affidavit says advances in forensic testing allowed authorities to resubmit DNA evidence late last year, which produced a near 100 percent match to Stane, who is set to be arraigned Tuesday.
