GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- A new report shows new construction as well as interest in the housing market is trending upward in Grand Junction.

The National Association of Home Builders tracks housing markets that are on the mend, and they say Grand Junction is one of those areas.

Also, a new report by the Grand Junction Chamber of Commerce revealed an increase of more than 37 percent in new single family residences from August 2011 to August of this year.

"It is growing and will continue to grow. Last year is probably going to be the best year had so far, but we anticipate 2013 being a game-buster year also," said Rod Porter, project manager for Porter Homes.

Experts say another sign of turnaround in the housing industry is interest in the annual Parade of Homes, which is put on by the Housing and Building Association of Northwestern Colorado.

More than 1,500 people attended this year's housing convention; that's steady growth of 58 percent from 2009.
