Group Says Coloradans Will Pay More for Health Care Under Romney

WASHINGTON- As election day quickly approaches, the debate over key issues continues.

One of the hot topics has been health care, and one nationwide nonpartisan group is hoping to make sense out of the candidates' plans.

The group, called Families USA, released its report Thursday.

The report breaks down the data from President Barack Obama's health care plan, in addition to Romney's plan that was passed while he was governor of Massachusetts, as well as Mitt Romney's current health care proposal.

The study revealed both Obama's plan and Romney's old plan are very similar, but both are very different from Romney's current plan.

The numbers were also broken down by state.

"In Colorado under Obamacare, approximately 390,000 uninsured people today would gain health care coverage by 2016. Under Gov. Romney's plan, 190,000 would lose coverage from 2016, so there's a huge difference between the two," said Ron Pollack, the executive director of Families USA.

The study also claims that out of pocket costs by the end of the next president's term would be an average of around $6,000 for Coloradans under Obama and more than $9,000 under Romney.

NewsChannel 5 asked both local parties about the report.

"It doesn't surprise me; what it was saying is that there is a benefit to the Obamacare as it ... starts to get enacted and it doesn't surprise me that what [Romney] is proposing now is something that is less beneficial to people in terms of reducing their costs of health care," said Karl Castleton, co-chair of the Mesa County Democratic Party.

Ruth Ehlers, chairwoman of the Mesa County Republicans, said she believes the report is incomplete. "It looked to me like they had not gone into all the issues that are involved in both of these plans. There were several things that were left out as far as I could see. Nothing is mentioned about options that are going to be available to people who are under 55. It doesn't talk about all the money that was taken out of Medicare to fund this, it does not talk about the number of doctors that will be needed to add these extra people who are going to be insured, it doesn't talk about any of the liabilities that accompany Obamacare and it does not talk anything about the positives that go with the plan Gov. Romney has put forth."

I have two nephews who are doctors. One is also a lawyer and has read the complete Obamacare package. He said it will drive many practicing physicians to quit. Then where will the health care be without doctors?

Since Obamacare passed my insurance company has raised premiums by over 70%. We now have deductibles so high that we can't get procedures done unless we pay the providers up front to cover the deductibles. Our doctor stopped practicing because the new rules, requirements, and lowered reimbursements made it financially impossible to continue. Are we better off? Hell NO!

What it doesn't address is who is gonna pay for all these additional people Obama gives free healthcare to in exchange for their votes.

Translation: The only way to make the plan work is to force everyone to buy it at gunpoint of the leviathan and cull the members that actually ask for claims to be paid. Isn't that correct, Indignated?

Mrs. Elhlers said " it does not talk about the number of doctors that will be needed to add these extra people who are going to be insured"... Is she serious? She want those people to be uninsured? And then walking into ERs and getting more expensive and less effective care which they wouldn't pay. I rather have everybody insured, healthier, and carrying a bit of their weight.
