FRUITA, Colo.- Local students attended a week-long class to learn what it takes to become a police officer.

"We got to dust for fingerprints and use cameras to take pictures of the crime scene and put evidence in bags," said Austin Harmon, a Junior Citizen Police Academy graduate.

The students were introduced to crime scene investigation, the canine unit as well as DUI enforcement and gang and drug awareness.

Fourteen students graduated Friday at the Fruita Rec Center. They each received a diploma in front of their family and friends. The students were between 13 and 15 years of age. There were a dozen boys and two girls.

This was the first graduating class of the Junior Citizen Police Academy.
