Statewide Investigation Reveals Dozens of Alleged Illegal Voters

DENVER- A statewide investigation has revealed dozens of alleged illegal voters.

Secretary of State Scott Gessler cross referenced Colorado's immigration detainee list with the voter registration database and found 85 matches of potential illegal voters.

Using the Open Records Act, Gessler was able to obtain the voting records of those who appear to be registered to vote, but are not U.S. citizens in eight counties, including Mesa.

The findings did not indicate how many of those people were from Mesa County, nor did they provide the identities of those suspected who have been released.

However, the controversial report is receiving pushback. Some feel voter information should not be available under the Open Records Act, saying it violates voter anonymity.

When some local elections are decided by mere votes, and in some cases, even National Elections are separated by a handful of votes, any illegally registered voter is a problem. Period.

Gessler doesnt know that these people are not US citizens. He just knows that these people forgot to check the box; stating they are US citizens. I would be curious to find out if these people are indeed eligible to vote or not. We had a primary here in June with the outcome decided by 53 votes so yes it matters. As a candidate for HD 41; I only care that people voted so that information is vital to every campaign. Considering how many stories I have heard that people are not able to register on the SOS site; I only hope he is not using public money to justify this though he probably is.

85 people is significant Congressmen and Governors are elected on less every election cycle. A man that could have voted as Holder, 85 illegals that voted,... when one party tries to marginalize reports and block voter ID laws you have to ask questions on their motive.

I can't believe someone said only 85 illegals. Those are just the ones that were caught. You know darn well there are many more.

illegal means illegal! get permission to stay, or go home and vote there!

It only violates voter anonymity if it reveals how a person voted not whether they voted or not! The states have a obligation to review voter lists and insure that people who no longer live in the state, such as myself, or people who are not citizens are not on the voter lists and do not vote.
