St. Mary's Hospital Receives Large Donation

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- A local, anonymous couple requested in their will to donate a large sum to St. Mary's Hospital.

The hospital received $670,191 from the couple, one of the largest donations in the hospital's 117 year history.

While the couple wished to remain anonymous, St. Mary's Hospital Foundation Executive Director Carmen Moyer described the couple as hard-working, low-key, and very humble.

"They really just felt it was a good thing for the community to have this health care here and to continue that mission," said Moyer.

The couple requested that over $500,000 of the donation be used towards equipment purchases and building projects.

The rest of the donation will go towards the Gray Gourmet, Senior Companion and Foster Grandparent Programs, all of which assist seniors in the Grand Valley.

Gray Gourmet project supervisor Jacque Pipe was surprised and thrilled to hear about the gift.

"This will go a long way in replacing some much-needed equipment in our kitchen. It couldn't have come at a better time," said Pipe.

Hospital Officials are grateful for the donation, and feel it's due to a symbol of the trust the community has in St. Mary's.

"We realize that the significance of this gift goes far beyond the amount," said Moyer. "It's really a singular acknowledgement of the excellent patient care that St. Mary's provides to the communtiy and we are just tremendously grateful for the trust this investment represents."
