GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- A family says they're lucky to be alive after waking up to their home full of smoke Thursday morning.

Around 4 a.m. on Thursday, Grand Junction Fire Department reported to 116 Glade Park Road in Grand Junction area for an attic fire.

All five people who were inside at the time escaped unharmed including their two pets.

“I woke up to smoke and looked above on my ceiling, and the ceiling was turning black,” said Kathy McAllister, home renter. “I didn't know what to do. I was panicking. I called 911, gathered up my kids and the dogs and headed out the door.”

Fire officials tell the home renter the cause of the fire is believed to be electrical, but there have been no official reports as of right now.
