Small Business Owners Rally Tax Cuts

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- A group of small business owners and local residents gathered outside the Mesa County Courthouse Saturday to fight to retain middle class tax cuts.

December 31 is an important day for many Americans, as it's the day the Bush Tax Cuts are expected to expire.

"We can have a thriving economy and keep creating jobs if the wealthiest two percent of Americans pay for their fair share," said Courtney Law, spokesperson for protect your care Colorado.

Residents rallying had two messages. One, to support the middle class continuation of the Bush Tax Cuts, which would ease the tax burden for folks making less than $250,000 a year. Two, ending the Bush Tax Cuts for those making $250,000 a year or more; ultimately raising their taxes by nearly four percent.

"The middle class are the ones who support this country and they need to stand and say, 'get this bill passed'," said Maria Keenan, owner of Keenan Construction.

Bill 3412, called the "Middle Class Tax Cut Act", supports what the residents stood for during the rally. The bill has already passed the senate, and is waiting for approval in the house.

Some residents say if the bill doesn't pass, the average tax payer will pay about $2,200 more a year.

"I'll have to pay a little more in taxes which is okay but for the people who have children, and are struggling, it's going to be hard for them to do that," said Keenan.

No mention of cutting spending, nor of the impending train wreck of Obummercare just around the corner in 2014. Just more wealth envy demagoguery, nothing more. Are these so-called small business owners really that vapid? Are their businesses so unsuccessful they cannot gross $250,000? Is it possible to hear from successful business owners who were able to break through the $250,000 barrier?
