CROWLEY COUNTY, Colo.- In honor of the slain prison sergeant who died trying to break up a fight, Gov. John Hickenlooper has ordered all flags to be flown at half-staff Monday, Oct. 1.

A memorial service for 55-year-old Sgt. Mary Ricard will also be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Crowley County High School in Ordway.

Gov. Hickenlooper will be in attendance.

Ricard died from a stab wound to the neck on Sept. 24 after an assault involving an inmate at the Arkansas Valley Correctional Facility near Ordway, about 45 miles east of Pueblo.

Another sergeant was seriously injured in the attack.
