Skills for Jobs Act Passes

by KREX News Room

The House Education Committee has unanimously passed the Skills for Jobs Act, or House Bill 12-1061. This act requires a report of the state's workforce needs for the next three years and checks if the number of people leaving education or training programs matches the needs of the workforce.

Mesa County Workforce officials say they think this new bill will be a good way to know what the employment needs are for businesses to better prepare those leaving higher education/training programs.

"It will definitely supply our community hopefully with the skills and the labor force that our businesses need and that's really a key to success," says Suzie Miller of the Mesa County Workforce Center.

The bill also says that if institutions need help meeting the needs of the workforce, the state will expand or develop mew programs for them.
