BRANDON, Fla. (AP) Rescue workers near Tampa, Fla., are trying to save a homeowner buried in rubble when a sinkhole swallowed up part of his house.

Fire officials say the large hole, about 100 ft. across, opened under a bedroom last night, trapping the 34-year-old man.

Rescuers haven't been able to get to him because what's left of the home has become too unstable.

Governor Rick Scott has created a sinkhole in Florida's state budget that's much deeper than 20 feet. His former health care company also paid the biggest fine in history for medicare fraud which he says he knew nothing about. Sympathy for Florida is in short supply.

Note NPR Reports: "Note at 10:10 a.m. ET: Authorities at the scene just told reporters that the hole is 30-feet in diameter and about 20 feet deep. They have established a 100-foot "safety zone" around the hole, but it is not that wide."
