Shop Downtown to Benefit United Way of Mesa County

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The weekend was a good opportunity to shop downtown to help the local economy and a local organization.

United Way of Mesa County held its first annual "Shop United" fundraiser.

The event allowed downtown businesses to make a monetary donation of their choice or have a portion of the weekend's proceeds donated to United Way of Mesa County.

Shoppers could also win gifts and prizes for participating.

"I just think it's a great thing for the community and to give back to the community that's given us so much over the years," said Cyndi Edmunds, owner of Zephyr.

A number of businesses participated in the event: Main Street Bagels, Pollux, Tangled, Colorado Baby, Razzmatazz, Abra Formal Wear, BuzzTown.com, Colorado Public Radio and Rocky Mountain PBS, Dalby, Wendland & Co., First Class Travel, Hammond's Golf, Kairos Children's Boutique, New York Moon, Rocky Tops, Unique Expressions, Walter Environmental, Woven Designs, Benges, Crystal Books and Gifts, Dolce Vita, Grand Valley Books, Interiors, Etc., Orr's Trading Company, Springhill Suites, Toys for the Fun of It and Varied Treasures.
