Sheriff Warns About Door-to-Door Sales Scam Hitting Western Slope

by KREX News Room
by Matt Kroschel

Mesa County - The Mesa County Sheriff's Office says a door-to-door scam is hitting the area. Deputies say adult men are going from house to house offering magazine subscriptions.

They become confrontational and verbally aggressive when homeowners express lack of interest. They are suspected of stealing cash from at least one house.

Deputies say do not allow strangers inside your home for any reason.

Authorities said to not answer or open your door if you don't know who it is. If you are interested in subscribing to magazines, you should make sure the salesperson has proper identification.

To report aggressive or suspicious sales, contact the Mesa County Sheriff's Office.

A MAN CAME TO MY HOUSE YESTERDAY SELLING MAGAZINES. I DIDN'T OPEN THE DOOR. WHEN I PEEKED OUT MY LIVING ROOM BLINDS TO SEE WHO IT WAS, HE WAS RIGHT ON THE OTHER SIDE, LOOKING THROUGH THE CRACKS OF MY BLINDS.

we have had 5 groups of these ppl in our neighborhood in the last month several of them approaching my children in the yard ... we to will be keeping our dogs out and eyes open for these people any donation dollars we have available will only go to local kids for legitimate reasons not out of towners claiming to be raising money for the childrens hospital ... scamers beware we don't like your kind in our neighborhood

The scam is not the salespeople abusing customers. The scam is the employer abusing the salespeople.

I have had dealings with them, they asked me for clothes when I told them i wasn't interested in the magazines. Was glad I had a dog in the house, made me feel a little safer.
