GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.
The Mesa County Sheriff's Office is asking people to watch out for a scam involving people impersonating electric company workers.
The scam artist reportedly knocks on a door, telling the resident that they must pay their overdue electric bill now or their power will be shut off.
The scam was first reported back in July, but the Sheriff's department says they still believe there is risk of a repeat of the scam.
Mesa County Sheriff's Office and XCEL Energy say that any suspicious activity should be reported immediately.
"We never have contractors, or anyone else collecting money for us, only our designated collectors who are well identified," says Western Slope Regional Manager for XCEL Fred Eggleston.
They say elderly residents are targeted most frequently, and should be extra cautious when unknown people are at their door.
Here are the numbers to call if you think you're being scammed.
