Montrose Sewer Line Project To Help Future Growth

MONTROSE, Colo.- Montrose City officials are adding more sewer taps to allow future construction projects along the North-Eastern part of the city.

The Airport Trunk Sewer Line project is in its third phase, which is a project officials say had to be done due to the current sewer lines being at capacity.

Officials say they had to put a sewer tap moratorium in place two years ago until the project was near completion.

They say the new pipes are to accommodate future growth.

"The lines that we had in place just couldn't handle much more growth. We're in kind of an economic slump right now and we're not seeing a lot of growth or building activity. But, we want to be prepared for when the economy picks up again and we start selling more sewer taps again,"said John Harris, public works director, with the City of Montrose.

Officials say the new pipes are 30-inch gravity fed sewer pipes, and they're installing 42 hundred feet of linear pipes underground.

The project is expected to be completed this summer.
