by Associated Press

DENVER- Senator Mark Udall, (D) Colorado, says he's satisfied after the Federal Communications Commission reached an agreement with major cellphone carriers to crack down on cellphone service providers who reactivate stolen cell phones.

Senator Charles Schumer, (D) New York, said in a statement Monday April 9th, that a database of identification numbers that are unique to each phone
will be established. Using the list, cellular carriers will be able to permanently disable a phone once it's been reported stolen.

Udall called for the ban, saying the thefts are becoming increasingly violent and the industry has the power to stop it.
