PALISADE, Colo.- State Senator Greg Brophy visited the Western Slope on Tuesday, to continue his campaign tour for Governor.
Just days ago, the Republican state senator known for gun-rights advocacy announced he will be running against Democratic Governor John Hickenlooper next year.
Brophy told NewsChannel 5 that he didn't even plan to run for elected politics again, but after the way this past session went, he wants to throw his hat in the ring.
He believes Hickenlooper is to too liberal and the state needs a leader based on conservative principles.
“My vision for Colorado is to concentrate on the kitchen table issues that everyone cares about and jealously guard our individual liberties,” said Senator Greg Brophy of District 1. “We are going to talk mostly about education, transportation and public safety.”
If elected, Senator Brophy plans to roll back gun control bills and renewable energy mandates.
Former U.S. Representative Tom Tancredo is also in the running.
Secretary of State Scott Gessler and Arapahoe County District Attorney George Brauchler say they may also enter the race.
