MESA COUNTY, Colo.- A semi-truck accident shut down Highway 65 for several hours Friday afternoon and caused a potential hazardous materials scare.

Fire departments from Palisade, Grand Junction and Plateau Valley responded to the crash, which occurred around 1 p.m.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, a semi traveling on Highway 65 near mile marker 58 hit a power pole and caught fire.

Officials say one male was transported to a Grand Junction hospital, although they cannot confirm his condition.

Hazmat crews also responded to the accident since the crash was very close to Plateau Creek.

CSP says the tanker was carrying production water, and although they have not been able to confirm the threat of a leak, officials are taking every precaution.

Hwy. 65 is now open.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

But, it comes from the gas/oil fields...it has to be bad. So, says the enviro-nazis, the uneducated, and the conspiracy theorists.

Perhaps because it is water? A mere trace of hydrocarbons doesn't create a hazard, in spite of what the eviro-nazi's tell us.

Production water contains hydrocarbons, and yet it does not require hazardous placards. Does anyone know why?
