DENVER (AP)- A Colorado Republican lawmaker wants to encourage schools and colleges to have debates about creationism, evolution, and global warming.

The bill sponsored by Representative Stephen Humphrey, was scheduled for a hearing Monday along with a vote in the House Education Committee.

The proposal calls on public schools and colleges to create an environment for students to encourage scientific questioning and be able to respond respectfully, to differing opinions on controversial issues in science education.

Experts say the legislation is likely to fail in the Democratic-led committee.
