Schools on Alert

A potential threat for area schools.

by KREX News Room

Grand Junction- A potential neighborhood threat forced four Grand Junction schools to be on alert Thursday. Police officials say they received a report in the afternoon of a juvenile who left his house carrying a knife.

The R-5 High School and the Opportunity Center were locked down, and Chipeta Elementary and East Middle School was put on "shelter in place," until it was safe.

The suspect with a knife was later taken into custody at the Target connected to the Mesa Mall, lifting the lockdown.
