School Resource Officer Bill Passes State Senate

COLORADO A bill that increases the role of school resource officers in Colorado schools was unanimously approved by the state Senate this week.

The bill would add a school resource officer to the School Safety Resource Center Advisory Board, and would allow the board to employ more staff to help smaller communities seeking safety grant funds.

The bill was led by Senator Steve King (R-Grand Junction), who believes smaller areas in Colorado should have the same school resource opportunities as the rest of the state.

"Hopefully, those school districts can start their own school resource officer program, which has been a valuable asset to the health and safety of our kids for 30 years in Colorado and different school districts," said Senator King.

King believes that several small communities would like the funding, but are unaware of how to request for grant funds.

Last year, Colorado spent $160,000 on SRO programs, when a state with this population should be spending over $200,000 on SRO grants.

Fugg, it turns out that all the Senators are "gung ho" to protect our kids. Every single Senator added their name as co-sponsor on this bill.

Senator Steve King.... If it employs more "officers" he is GungHo to spend the tax payers money.
