School Reacts to Mother's Public Punishment for Kids

FORT MORGAN, Colo. - One Colorado mother is speaking out against a school after their reaction to shirts she sent her children to class in.

Jessica Rocha told our sister station KCNC, that officials at green acres elementary in Fort Morgan made her kids cover up their shirts.

Rocha says her 8-year-old stepdaughter and 9-year-old son were continually misbehaving at home. As a new form of punishment she sent them to school wearing T-shirts stating what they had done wrong.

One shirt said "I am disrespectful." It also included the definition of the word disrespectful.

The other shirt said "I steal."

Rocha claims the school interfered with her right to discipline her children.

She says her children suggested wearing the shirts as their form of punishment and she plans on continuing to do it.

Do you think "shaming shirts" are an appropriate form of punishment for kids?

No it sounds like she's a parent doing her best. it would be sad if she gave up, stop caring and did nothing!everyone is born innocent but into a world of sin.it is a parents challenge to keep their child on the right path in a world that continues to change the meaning of wrong by comfort. that determines punishment by status, sex or color.that ties their hands though limitations set by the government but does not apply to them. it is criminal to be physically, mentally and emotionally abusive to a child. but an official(school, police, judge)can do all of the above if determined necessary.childen needs to be shown how to be modest, respectfuland honest individuals that know the truth about consequence even if its though humility.

Sounds like she's failure as a mother and now she can blame the school for her inability to discipline her children. What a loser. Her children are acting that way for a reason. Kids dont come into the world bad--they spoil with inept parenting.

Not a bad idea. Kids get away with way too much as it is and they need to know that actions have consequences.

I think we need to fund I AM A BULLY shirt for school use and the bullies get to clean up and take the trash out Not sure mother's application is going to get what she wanted. Could be a badge of honor

The children probably wear the shirts as an honor amongst their friends at school.
