According to WS, MJ is safer than bottled drinking water and cures many deseases. It seems he believes people would rather be high than in control of their own minds. MJ is a psychotic drug, when you are high on MJ you are not in control of your brain. Just like when you are high on alcohol, you are not in control of your brain. High is high regardless of what you are high on, there is no use for it on a job nor is there any use for it in the schools. Regulation does not control the sale of alcohol to minors any more than it will control the sale of MJ to minors. I don't care who the pusher is, the money involved in the sale doesn't care what the age of the buyer is. Those who keep pushing this agenda simply keep a deaf ear to what is being said against it and refuse to acknowledge anything being written against it. They refuse to hear anything about crimes committed by users, it hurts their ears. MJ has killed by proxy many times over.

I notice the school district has nothing to say about the alarming use of Ritalin and other "mood altering" drugs sanctioned by mainstream physicians. No mention of kids that have access to their parents' alcohol or prescription painkillers that end up in the hands of children. Marijuana is not a gateway anything.Uncle Sam sticks his hands into your pockets, heck the government gets its pay from your paycheck before it even gets to you.You have no say where your taxes are going or how your money is being spent. If people would research for themselves the positive effects of medical marijuana and the benefits to their communities instead of listening to alarmist hype...oh, wait. That would take time and EFFORT.

And when it does pass District 51 will be there with their hands out saying give me some of that money! People, marijuana is not a gateway drug, that would be alcohol and the top of the list would be nicotine. Marijuana is safe and effective for many medical conditions it's been proven. I have said this before and I will say it again, this amendment is not for the children, it's for adults, if you folks really cared about the kids you would want it regulated and sold in state run stores just like booze! You would encourage the local law enforcement to keep an eye out for illegal sales to minors just like they do with alcohol. To not regulate is like saying go ahead and do it kiddies, we don't care enough about you to keep marijuana behind the counter we just don't want it! All you prohibitionists have you heads firmly placed where the sun doesn't shine. It's no surprise that Mesa and Delta counties are at the bottom in the State when it comes to education, just look around you!

Wow, the ignorance most of you have displayed in this public forum is scary. You say it will make things worse when in reality it will make things much better. Research Amsterdam and see how they deal with their "drug" issue. They did it right. Also, this is a lifestyle choice. The VA would rather I be on the pills they want to give me, but the side effects are such that it makes life even rougher between the psych and physical side effects. Also my drugs from the VA are not cheap, at least for the tax payers. Then on the other hand, I take a hit or 2 off of my pipe and I get almost the same quality relief from my issues as if I had taken the VA drugs, but I am taking only 1 drug and I do not have all the nasty little side effects. You and the VA would rather me take a couple of vicoden, a muscle relaxer or 2, and a Levitra just to be able to make love. I say you want to live like that, go for it, just do NOT try and force that life on me. TAX AND REGULATE.

What the school board forgets is that just a 3% tax on MJ devoted to Education would allow district 51 to add up to three new bimbos in the superintendents office. And they could add one bus for the children.

I also went to High school here, back in the 80's. Back then, just like now marijuana was easily available to anyone who wanted it. Regulating it and putting it behind the counter where only adults could purchase it makes more sense than leaving it in the hands of our local drug dealers who do not care if the buyer is 9 years old or 99 years old. This plant has been around for thousands of years, I'm pretty sure it isn't going to just disappear if Amendment 64 is not passed. One way to keep your children safe from this drug or any drug is to communicate with your children and educate them about the truth. It's called parenting and taking responsibility for your child.

Yes it should be legalized and controled like alcohol. Those that will abuse it will do so whether it is legal or illegal.

Right now, most of the sales of non-medical marijuana in Colorado take place in an underground market, controlled by gangs and cartels. These sales should be conducted by legitimate Colorado businesses instead, so that we can create good jobs and generate tax revenue to rebuild our crumbling public schools, maintain our public parks, and fund other community needs.

Weed is great, deal with the fact that the majority wants it to be legalized.

I teach at a local high school and I've seen people not attend class or ditch just so they can get high. This admendment is just a way to make drugs easier and better accessble by kids. To say yes on this is to shoot yourself in the foot.

I've survived cancer by not accepting a defeatist attitude. I was offered this when it was first introduced. I refused it and accepted treatments that work in curing cancer. To allow this into society is to take the fuel out of doing the right thing and put us down a direction towards a path that we shouldn't go down.

I agree with the people above I went to Grand Junction High School and I've seen first hand friends who would rather get high than pass high school. I've seen people drop out over it. I've seen people choose this drug over relationships. To allow this into our community is to accept a defeatist attitude. SAY NO to drugs.

I went to high school here. I watched friends drop out of high school to get more drugs to fuel their habit. To say yes to this damanging proposal is mind blowing. It will be a detiment to people here in the Grand Valley. It's just an excuse to give people a reason to get high. We have better morals than this people.

I do not want my child exposed to drugs. I'm against this addmendment. To allow drugs to be allowed into this town I will have to agree with my husband and say that crimes will sky rocket.
Richard Sheetz said on Tuesday, Oct 16 at 10:20 PM
Pot is a gateway drug. From watching friends at Fort Lewis College and in high school try this drug. I've seen them try harder stuff. It's been linked to theft, and other violent and non violent crimes. If people say yes to this crime rates will sky rocket in Grand Junction. Do not allow this posion to be allowed into our population.
