School Board Candidates Accept Donations from Billionaire

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Some District 51 school board candidates are attracting attention after reporting a particularly large donation.
A billionaire from the Front Range has contributed a total of $15,000 to all three candidates opposing the current incumbents.
The billionaire's name is Edward McVaney, and in the past decade he's pumped millions of dollars into a private Christian school he started in the Denver area.
The recipients of the donation are candidates Pat Kanda, Mike Lowenstein and John Sluder.
Sluder says he’s had minimal contact with McVaney.
“He's just yet another donor in my campaign. I have no association with him, and don't see one in the future,” says Sluder.
It's unclear what McVaney wants to get out of the investment, but he has made similar contributions to school board elections in Douglas County a few years ago.
