GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- A Grand Valley elementary school will be holding a patriotic ceremony Tuesday morning in remembrance of 9/11.

Scenic Elementary has been hosting the ceremony since 9/11's first anniversary.

Members of the Mesa County Sheriff's Office and Grand Junction Police Department are expected to attend the reception.

The Fruita Choir will sing "The Star-Spangled Banner."

Principal Doug Levinson of Scenic Elementary says it is important to teach the students about the day.

"Essentially, particularly in school, we are here to become great citizens and good patriots. Along the way we learn to read and write and do everything else and that helps us to become good patriots and great citizens," explained Levinson.

Scenic Elementary is located at 451 W. Scenic Drive in Grand Junction.

The ceremony starts at 8:45 Tuesday morning.

The event is free and open to the public.
