GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The local chapter of the Salvation Army is collecting items to help evacuees and firefighters. All residents are encouraged to join in on their efforts.

They are asking for water, Gatorade and monetary donations. They are also looking for volunteers to be on call. They say they may need volunteers at the Palisade High School shelter to help feed evacuees and provide moral support.

Officials with the Salvation Army say many local residents have already responded to help.

Cibyl Marsh, office manager with the Salvation Army, said, "People here are wonderful. Grand Junction has the best people here to give. They give from their hearts, so we really appreciate that."

You can drop off donations at 1235 N. Fourth Street from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you would like to volunteer or have any additional questions, call the Salvation Army at 242-7513.
