GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- A Grand Valley Safeway grocery store had to throw away thousands of dollars worth of food after a refrigeration malfunction was discovered.

Kris Staaf with Safeway corporate said the switchboard on the roof of the store at 2901 F Road had a power failure around 9 p.m. Tuesday night, affecting all dairy, meat and other refrigerated and frozen products.

Staaf said that store employees caught the problem early the next morning after the food sat overnight.

They threw away every product that was affected.

If you bought a refrigerated or frozen product from the Safeway on F Road between 9 and 10 p.m. on Tuesday and you have concerns, you can call 970-248-9869.

Signs were put up in the store alerting customers about the issue.

Safeway staff say they'll refund any products that were affected.

They also say the cleaning, sanitizing and restocking should be completed by Thursday morning.
