SWAT Stand Off, Car Chase Suspect Appears In Court

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The man accused of leading Mesa County Sheriff's deputies on a car chase and barricading himself inside a woman's home earlier this March was formally read his charges in Mesa County court.

The suspect, 39-year-old Lawrence Robert Short, has been formally charged with trespassing, vehicular eluding, obstructing a peace officer, and reckless driving.

According to deputies short was pulled over on March 7th near 25 Road and F 1/2 Road, before he drove off at a high rate of speed on 25 Rd.

Authorities say Short jumped out of his car and entered a home while a female resident was inside and the S.W.A.T. team was called to the residence.

After several hours, Short, exited the home and was taken into custody.

He is due back in court on April 8th at 9:30 a.m.
