GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Houston-based SG Interests has submitted two applications to the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission to drill new gas wells in the Thompson Divide.

The Post Independent reports one well would be in Pitkin County and one would be in Garfield County. Local governments are preparing their comments on the application.

SG Interests has previously submitted six permit applications to the Bureau of Land Management to drill on federal land in the Thompson Divide, which conservationists have tried to protect from drilling because of its wildlife habitat, scenery, proximity to organic farms and other concerns. BLM spokesman David Boyd says there is one application for a well in Garfield County and five in Pitkin County.

The Thompson Divide includes parts of Pitkin, Garfield, Mesa, Delta and Gunnison counties.
