Roice-Hurst Humane Society Reports Banner Year

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- One local humane society closed out 2012 with an increase in adoptions.

Roice-Hurst Humane Society is reporting a Banner year for 2012. Last year, the popular society adopted 320 cats and over 720 dogs. This, according to officials, is a 69 percent increase in cat adoptions and a 49 percent hike for dogs.

Managers at the shelter attribute the major jump in adoption to factors like a bigger facility.

“The facility is defiantly a lot nicer verses the trailer we were in,” said Ashley Digardo, adoption manager. “More people know about us now.”

“People have learned that adopting a dog from the shelter is just the right thing to do,” said Judy Bowes, shelter manager. “We still have millions of dogs out there that die every year, they are euthanized because there is not enough room for them, enough space or enough people to adopt them.”

2012 was the first full year at the Humane Societies new location on 28 Rd.

They say they’re hoping 2013 will be just as successful.
