GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Several organizations working to protect our waters have joined together to put on The River Crossings Conference, and it kicked off on Monday.

The five-day conference is being held at Colorado Mesa University.

The Water Center at CMU is hosting the event, other groups there include the Tamarisk Coalition, River Management Society, and the Bureau of Land Management.

The week is packed with presentations, panels and field trips, highlighting emerging issues in river management.

Executive director of the River Management Society, Risa Shimoda, said, "It's challenging because it's complicated, there are many layers. The only thing we can do, because we can't fix anything tomorrow, is to work together to increase the amount of education that there is about the rivers and then to work together as best we can."

Students, researchers, agency managers and members of the public are invited to come learn more about river challenges.

Registration will be open through the week and there are varying fees to attend.
