GRAND JUNCTION,Colo. The Colorado Department of Transportation started its final phase at the Rimrock and Independent intersection in Grand Junction, and C-DOT workers are setting up detours.
The Rimrock and Independent intersection will be partially closed, starting next week.
C-DOT says drivers will be able to make right turns in and out of I-70B.
Officials also say this project work will improve property value of the road and make it more appealing.
“Improvements consist of widening the area to six lanes instead of three lanes, resurfacing the entire highway in concrete instead of asphalt and also doing some streetscape improvements which will make it more attractive in the area,” C-DOT Public Information Officer Tom Newland.
The first detour going northbound is to take 25 road up to Pinyon Ave then take a right at 25 1/2 Road to get to Sam's club.
The second detour going southbound is on American Way between Golds Gym and American Furniture Warehouse.
C-DOT says that all of the construction will be completed by mid-December.
