Rifle Area Fire Districts to Merge

GARFIELD COUNTY, Colo.- On Sept. 26 emergency services in Rifle, Silt and New Castle will merge to create the Colorado River Fire Rescue Authority.

This partnership will merge the Burning Mountains District and the Rifle Fire Protection Districts' operational services, such as hazardous materials response and river rescue.

Rifle fire authorities say combining certain aspects of the two districts will not only save residents' tax dollars, but it will reduce response times and increase efficiency in the departments by using less personnel for more coverage .

They also said that this partnership has been nearly 10 years in the making.

Glenwood Springs is not yet a part of the cooperative effort, although officials say the city is evaluating the details of the merger to possibly join in one day.
