Residents Tour Palisade Fire Station

PALISADE, Colo.- The Palisade Volunteer Fire Department has a new place to call home.

The old library building located on 7th Street was renovated into a new fire station, and the public was allowed to tour the building Saturday.

"It feels great, as the town came in today I didn't hear any negativity about it. They seem to be proud of it," said Richard Rupp, fire chief.

The new station holds all their equipment inside, allowing firefighters to respond much quicker since they won't have to deal with filling up the water truck.

"It'll save probably almost a half hour of time I'd almost assume," said Rupp.

Though the department is settled into the new building, they say they've got plenty to do to keep them busy.

"Learning, more training, learning how the building operates, learning the routes back into town," said Rupp.

Firefighters say they're feeling right at home.

"When the trucks backed in it felt good, we're here for probably the next 30 to 40 years," said Rupp.
