GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Dozens of residents are taking their hobbies to the sky this New Years Day, a tradition they have been carrying on for over 10 years now.

The "Grand Junction Scale Modellers" club is hosting their annual Chili Fly Air Show, where they're flying helicopters and planes for the crowd.

They say every year they enjoy showing off their model planes on New Years Day, and mother nature has never stopped them.

“We just come out here no matter what the weather is,” said David Dickey, vice president of Grand Junction Scale Modellers. “We're going to come out here and fly, whether there is snow, rain, or sleet. We're like the post man.”

Members of the club say they hope the kids who watch the show are inspired.

They want them to become more interested in engineering and building model airplanes and helicopters.
