GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Operation Interdependence (OI) is getting creative with their fundraising efforts and want the public to take part. Folks from age eight to over 70 have decorated paper mache birdhouses and they are display at Shabby Chic, a local boutique.

On Saturday March 16, the organization will hold a silent auction featuring the art. The nonprofit will use the funds toward care packages, which are sent to our troops.

Karon Carley, president and area manager of Operation Interdependence, said, "We have to pay just like everybody else to ship to the troops, and it is difficult to get postage funds. Anybody can donate, whether it's 70 cents for one troop or whether it's $30 to help us pay for a whole box."

OI will also host a chili lunch along with the silent auction on Saturday.

It will be held at the VFW Post 1247 located at 1404 Ute Ave. Chili is $2 a bowl or $5 for all you can eat. Doors open at 1 p.m.
