Rep. Joe Salazar Facing Controversy After Comment Made on House Floor

by KREX News Room

DENVER - A debate over gun control legislation lands a Colorado lawmaker in hot water.

Democratic Rep. Joe Salazar, of Thornton, is facing backlash after making comments on the House floor last Friday.

Salazar was talking about carrying firearms on college campuses and suggested that a woman's perception of being threatened could cloud her judgment on whether to use a gun.

He said, in part, "If you feel like you're going to be raped or if you feel like someone's been following you around or if you feel like you're in trouble. And when you may actually not be that you pop out that gun and you pop a round at somebody."

Salazar has since apologized to anyone who found his words offensive, but republican females in the House are now demanding that House Speaker Ferrandino and Governor Hickenlooper publicly condemn his remark.

Wow, elections have consequences. How about that?

The required class for concealed carry concentrates on when it is legal (appropiate) to use your weapon. Not one of Rep. Joe Salazar scenarios would be an appropiate use of a weapon. Perhaps Mr Salazar should take the course so he, would have an idea of what he is talking about. His remarks should be condemed as should he for supporting an infringment on our constitutional rights.
