Regional Commissioners Meet Discussing Public Land Issues

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. On Thursday, commissioners from all across the western region of the Untied States met at Colorado Mesa University about many legislative plans.
Mesa County is part of the National Association of Counties which is an organization of county commissioners to discuss many public land issues.
Officials say the main topic of the discussion was to provide ideas that will help public lands thrive across the western part of the United States.
The Associate Legislation Director says one challenge facing many western counties is the distance between communities.
"Even health care access to many rural communities is different in the east or the south just because of the great distances and challenges it takes to provide quality health care and government services to a rural population,” said NACO Director Ryan Yates.
Mesa County Commissioners say this forum helps them gain ideas from other states that have the same public land issues.
