Record Turnout for Colorado Oil and Gas Association Banquet

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Hundreds of folks gathered Friday night for the annual Western Slope Colorado Oil and Gas Association's banquet.

Many elected officials were present as was Congressman Scott Tipton who made the trip to speak at the event.

Organizers say it was a record breaking night where folks that work in oil and gas can come together to celebrate the changes in the industry over the last year.

"We've got a great opportunity right now to be able to get our people back to work. We're standing in a county that has a real unemployment level of about 20 percent. Our folks need to be able to get back to work and we need to be able to provide energy security in this country," said Congressman Scott Tipton (R).

"The energy industry over the last century has been very important to Western Colorado, over the last two decades has transformed and revolutionized the economy and so it's very important that we get together and we talk about doing things right and always improving our operations," said David Ludlam, the Executive Director of Western Slope Colorado Oil and Gas Association.

Tipton also said by easing up regulations on oil and gas plans that are operating responsibly, it would help Western Colorado's communities and economy.

"Tipton also said by easing up regulations" No we need to clamp down even more. I am so tired of the destruction of land these people cause not to mention the pollution of ground water and wells.

No one has explained why it is the responsibility of the United States to provide energy and food for the entire world.

Dillard, because other people are not as fortunate as we are in the US. It is called charity, and it is a theological virtue. Here is the definition: selfless, unconditional, and voluntary loving-kindness such as helping one's neighbours.

Daniel, In my opinion we should apply those theological values to our neighbors and our citizens before we take the responsibility for people in foreign nations, many of which are our enemies. Certainly you do not deny that there are millions in our nation that are not as fortunate as perhaps you and I are. Have you not witnessed the growth of poverty in this country? The selling of our energy resources to foreign nations has nothing to do with theological virtue, it is for the enrichment of those that already have abundance. There were no homeless or hungry people in attendance at this COG&A Banquet.

Furthermore Daniel selling our energy resources to foreign nations is not charity, it is for profit. I am not opposed to capitalism, but I do not think the American people should be forced to pay increasingly higher energy cost for the benefit of a wealthy few. That's not socialism, that's a patriotic love of the United States of America and its people.
